Guardians of Change

Empowering Through Collective Action

De-suung: Bhutan's Guardians of Peace

Community action is the 'heartbeat' of positive change in Bhutan. Under the visionary leadership of our King, the De-suung movement, which translates to "Guardians of Peace," was launched in 2011, founded on the spirit of volunteerism. Today, this exemplary community action initiative has 41,000 active volunteers, with 17,000 of them being females, actively delivering positive changes in Bhutan.

Fostering Positive Impact

These De-suung champions are the core of Bhutan's human capital, actively volunteering to build resilience, from greening cities and planting a million fruit trees to ensuring women's safety, developing clean energy solutions, and responding to emergencies and disasters. Their efforts also extend to fighting forest fires, promoting 'zero-waste' practices, and providing essential skills to Bhutan's youth. The power of collective action is Bhutan's post-COVID-19 story, where inspiring tales emerge from the youth, women, highlanders, and the dedicated keepers of Bhutan's journey towards Carbon Neutrality.
